Sports radio war...Let the games begin

-Compiled by John McMullen

Starting next week, here is the regular rotation for WIP and ESPN 950.

Mornings
610 - Angelo Cataldi and the Morning Team - 6 a.m. - 10 a.m. - Angelo and Company are the 500-pound gorilla that fuels WIP's success and I don't get it. Al Morganti has been mailing it in for years, Rhea Hughes is insufferable and the lead up to Wing Bowl is excruciating radio. That said, these guys are untouchable in the market.

950 - Mike and Mike Show - 6 a.m. - 9 a.m. - Great show with great personalities but Philly will balk. I don't care if it's the NCAA Championship or a Yankees - Dodgers World Series, the locals would rather talk about Chad Johnson coming to town for the 85th time.

Mid-Days

610 - Glen Macnow and Anthony Gargano - 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Gargano is part John Gotti, part vintage George Steinbrenner. The teflon co-host has gone through Macnow, Mike Missanelli, Steve Martorano, Missanelli again, Martorano again and now Macnow again. Watch out "Professor."

950 - Jody McDonald 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. - Jody is as solid as they come as a radio professional but more than one of his bosses over the years would like to drag him into the 21st century. Please Jody -- for the love of God -- drop the "Do Me a Favor" segment.

Mike Tirico - 1 p.m. - 3 p.m. - Philly will have zero interest in this syndicated show.

Afternoon Drive

610 - Howard Eskin 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. - "The King" has been running on fumes for years -- No research and little knowledge of the existence of a sports world outside the City limits.

950 - Mike Missanelli - 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. - Mikey Miss is a personal favorite but a trip up the turnpike has taken its toll. "Richard Justice" is never going to be a player for the Eagles? Come on Mike, you are better than that.

Nights

610 - Ike Reese 7 p.m. - 11 p.m. - Ike is a natural but still needs a lot of work.

950 - The Locker Room with Harry Mayes and Dan Schwartzman 7 p.m. - 11 p.m. - Two generic guys talking sports. Certainly will put on a better show than the inexperienced Reese but both need to show more personality and the ability to offer stronger opinions.
