The Philadelphia Flyers signed forward Andreas Nodl and defenseman Michael Ratchuk to entry-level contracts Friday. Both players will report to the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms.
“Andreas is a skilled forward that skates well,” said Flyers GM Paul Holmgren in making the announcement. “He had two great years at St. Cloud State and we feel that he is ready to move to the next level in his hockey career."
"Mike is a very skilled offensive defenseman,” Holmgren added. “He's is an outstanding skater and possesses excellent puck skills, vision and awareness."
Nodl, 21, recorded 18 goals and 26 assists for 44 points and 22 penalty minutes in 40 games for the St. Cloud State University Huskies this past season. He was second on the team in power play goals (11), tied for second in goals (18) and shots (113) and third in points (44) and assists (26).
He finishes his two-year career at St. Cloud State with 36 goals and 54 assists for 90 points and 54 penalty minutes in 80 games. The 2007 HCA Division I National Rookie of the Year and 2007 WCHA Rookie of the Year, Nodl set a team record for most points by a freshman with 46 points (18G,28A) during the 2006-07 campaign. He gained All-WCHA Second Team Honors in 2008, and was also named to the All-WCHA Third Team and All-WCHA Rookie Team in 2007.
The Vienna, Austria native was drafted by the Flyers in the second round (39th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Ratchuk, 20, registered six goals and 19 assists for 25 points and 48 penalty minutes in 42 games for the Michigan State University Spartans this past season. He led the Spartans defensemen in goals (6) and points (25). He was named Honorable Mention selection on the All-CCHA Team for the 2007-08 season.
Over his two seasons at Michigan State (2006-07 and 2007-08), he registered 10 goals and 27 assists for 37 points and 76 penalty minutes in 82 games. As a freshman in 2006-07, Ratchuk was an Honorable Mention selection on the CCHA All-Rookie Team and was the winner of the Spartans’ Outstanding Rookie Award. He was a member of Michigan State’s NCAA National Championship team in 2007.
He was drafted by the Flyers in the second round (42nd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
