Briere a go for the playoffs

According to an article by The Philadelphia Inquirer's Tim Panaccio, Daniel Briere says he will play in the Philadelphia Flyers' first-round series against the Washington Capitals.

There was some concern in regards to the Flyers' top offseason acquisition after he suffered a knee sprain after a knee-to-knee hit by dirty Pittsburgh Penguins forward Jarkko Ruutu. Briere missed the next two games, but according to Panaccio, skated on his own Monday and declared himself ready.

"I'm feeling great," Briere told the paper. "It's not going to be a problem. I'll be fine to start the series on Friday."

The story adds that Briere will play with a brace, and that the center felt he might have been able to play versus the Penguins on Sunday, but thought it was better to rest up after the club clinched a spot on Friday against New Jersey.

It was an odd first year in Philly for Briere, who led the club with 31 goals (Trade deadline pickup Vaclav Prospal had 33 markers on the season, but just four of those came with the Flyers) and was second with 72 points. However, he ended the year a minus-22 and needed a late surge to justify the big deal he signed in the offseason.

Panaccio also wrote that defenseman Derian Hatcher skated with the team as he recovers from a fractured tibia. He would not be available until later in the series, tough.
