Finally a closer...Phils activate Lidge

The Phillies activated closer closer Brad Lidge from the 15-day disabled list Saturday.

The 31-year-old Lidge was place don the DL March 24 (retroactive to March 21) due to right knee surgery performed on February 25.

The flame- thrower, who was acquired along with utility player Eric Bruntlett from Houston in a November trade for center fielder Michael Bourn, relief pitcher Geoff Geary and third baseman Mike Costanzo, made one rehab appearance with Class-A Clearwater, allowing one run in an inning of work with a pair of strikeouts.

To make room for Lidge, the Phillies designated relief pitcher Tim Lahey for assignment. Lahey was claimed off waivers from the Chicago Cubs on March 28 and never pitched for the Phillies.
