Birds sign punter/kickoff specialist

The Eagles signed punter/kicker Richmond McGee to a three-year contract on Wednesday..

McGee (6-4, 203) handled both punting and kickoff duties during his career at the University of Texas, averaging 39.6 yards on 130 punts, while 96 of his 265 (36%) career kickoffs went for touchbacks.

As a senior in 2005, he averaged 37.9 yards per punt, dropping 11 inside the 20-yard line, and kicked off 16 times with five touchbacks. After walking on in 2001 and sitting out the year as a redshirt freshman, he later took on the team’s kickoff duties in 2002. McGee then added the punting chores to his responsibilities in 2003, on his way to earning the Longhorns special teams MVP honors that season. McGee was named first-team Academic All-Big 12 and converted the only field goal attempt of his career, a 44 yarder, in 2004.
