Phillies notes

According to both the Phillies' official Web site and philly.com, injured Phillies pitcher Freddy Garcia may need surgery on his shoulder that could spell the end of his season.

Garcia had an MRI on Monday that showed "pathology" in the labrum and fraying of the rotator cuff. The right-hander is expected to seek a second opinion. If he does need surgery, he could miss the rest of the season and it could also mean the end of the pending free agent's Philly career.

Also, the Phillies are expected to purchase the contract of Kyle Kendrick from Double-A Reading and start the right-hander in the series finale against the White Sox on Wednesday.
