Eagles release WR Johnson

The Eagles released kick returner Bethel Johnson after the speedster was unable to pass a physical. Johnson suffered a stress fracture in his leg before the Birds' post-draft minicamp in May and has been unable to participate in any of the OTAs since.

But, the team expects to bring Johnson back if he can get healthy. The Eagles envision Johnson competing with Jeremy Bloom for both return jobs.

The Eagles are also expected to release long snapper Mike Bartrum sometime this week. Bartrum, who suffered a serious neck injury last season, may retire or sit out the entire 2007 season with the hope of returning in 2008.
