Free agent defensive end Chris Clemons is in town visiting with the Eagles and the team has scheduled a 3:30 p.m. press conference at the NovaCare Complex. Translation -- It's a done deal.
The 26-year-old Clemons registered a career-high eight sacks for the Oakland Raiders in 2007, despite being on the field for just 37 percent of the team’s defensive plays. His sack total tied for the team lead with former Eagle Derrick Burgess. Clemons, who played in all 16 games (two starts) for Oakland, also added 20 tackles and two forced fumbles.
Clemons was originally signed as a rookie free agent linebacker by Washington in 2003 and recorded five sacks in 20 games for the Redskins from 2004-05. A native of Griffin, Georgis, he played collegiately at the University of Georgia.
In the goofiest rumor of the day, Pro Football Talk somehow extrapolated that the Birds might get into the Randy Moss sweepstakes because Takeo Spikes was missing from the depth chart on the team's site. Mike Florio runs a great site but Oliver Stone wouldn't even buy that one.
The real explanation for Takeo's omission? Dave Spadaro is incompetent.
