WWE suspends Mysterio

World Wrestling Entertainment has suspended Oscar Gutierrez (Rey Mysterio) for 30 days after he violated the company's Wellness Program.

The suspension starts on Wednesday, September 2, presumably so Gutierrez can drop his Intercontinental Title in the ring at the company's television tapings a day earlier.

In the past Gutierrez has been linked to the Signature Pharmacy investigation as well as Chris Benoit's doctor, Phil Astin, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison in May for illegally distributing prescription drugs to patients.

"I was hugely disappointed to hear of Rey Mysterio being suspended for violation of the WWE Wellness Policy," Former WWE talent relations chief Jim Ross wrote. "That's a real head scratcher but it will open the door for some young lions to take their game and the perception that goes with it to the next level including Dolph Ziggler and John Morrison just to name a couple."

Gutierrez almost left WWE earlier this year over concerns with his push and travel schedule.
