WIP-ESPN 950 radio war heats up

Daily News gossip guy Dan Gross has the latest WIP-ESPN 950 nonsense.

According to Gross, 610 WIP's Rob Charry and Sean "Pieface" Brace, a producer at 950, engaged in a heated argument Thursday night at Bishop's Collar.

Brace supposedly approached Charry to "politely" introduce himself. An eyewitness said Charry, who is known as "Angry Bob" at 610, quickly insulted 950 and said that if the station were any good, he would be on it.

The conversation quickly escalated according to Gross with Brace calling Charry a "c@#$sucker" and telling him that if he said one more cross word about ESPN 950, they would have to take it outside.

"The guy was drunk," Charry told Gross. "The conversation I had with him was absurd, and to be recalling it now with you is even more absurd. Apparently something I said rubbed this guy the wrong way. All of a sudden he got a little testy."

Charry also told Gross he is "friends with people at 950" and didn't recall badmouthing the rival radio station.

Gross didn't reach Brace but did talk to the big mahoff at ESPN 950, program director Matt Nahigian.

"I don't condone that type of behavior from my guys," Nahigian said. "But, that type of passion from our radio station is why we are as close to WIP as ever and are defeating their afternoon show. If someone was taking shots at our station, I would expect our guys to stand up for the station."

Nahigian has been flying high since Mike Missanelli's afternoon drive show has been topping Howard Eskin on WIP show in key 25-54 mail demographic for the past several months.
