Does yesterday’s hiring of Donnie Walsh turn over a new leaf at the circular file known as Madison Square Garden or will this actually change the culture of losing on the west side of Manhattan.
The Knickerbockers have been a joke for so long it seems like 50 years ago that they made 14 straight playoff appearances, including a trip to the NBA Finals.
Now that Donnie Walsh is here to play the role of John Wayne and turn this ghost town into a respectable organization Isiah should be shown the door immediately. Yes, there are only seven games left in yet another putrid campaign, but let Herb Williams finish out the stretch and see if he is a viable option as coach.
Not only that but Zeke deserves to be embarrassed just like he’s made a mockery of this once proud franchise. Send Thomas to Siberia and make him the highest-paid Assistant Equipment Manager in the league.
Jimmy Dolan’s loyalty has crushed this team by letting Isiah stick around for too long and spending money like it was made out of different colors by Milton Bradley.
Walsh said all the right things at his press conference on Wednesday, but Knick fans need to know that this team will be suffering long after Thomas is shown the door (or the basketball rack).
Why would Walsh, a 67-year-old New York native, want to take on this Titanic? He built a couple of strong Pacer clubs…just ask Spike Lee. He was being forced out in Indiana by Larry Bird and could’ve just ridden into the sunset, but instead he’ll let this be his legacy…tying his anchor to a once stellar organization that has become the biggest laughingstock in all of sports.
How can he turn this around to create some cap room for the 2010 season that everyone is clamoring for when LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade become free agents?
We saw what Dolan did to Hall-of-Fame coach Larry Brown, so what would make anyone think that Walsh will even be here after another two brutally awful season.
Wait until the Knicks get the third pick in this year’s draft and are stuck with Brook Lopez, Anthony Johnson, Eric Gordon or O.J. Mayo.
Isiah has been so bad the even the lottery balls hate the Knicks. He has destroyed this team to such a degree that he will ruin the careers of Walsh, the new GM (Billy King?), and the next head coach.
Would anyone be surprised if Billy King won the executive of the year? Let’s not forget that it was King, not Ed Stefanski that traded Allen Iverson for Andre Miller, drafted Andre Iguodala, Louis Williams, Thaddeus Young, and signed Samuel Dalembert to a reasonable contract for an athletic big man.
Will he be the next import to try and salvage this mess in New York?
The Knickerbockers are saddled with the worst team the $88 million can buy, including the third-highest paid player in the NBA this year in Stephon “I’ve never won a playoff series” Marbury for a whopping $20-plus million.
Unfortunately for New York the Knicks have no hope of getting under the salary cap soon. They have a team of brutal players that you couldn’t give away. There are only two high-priced bums coming off the books after NEXT season (Marbury and Malik Rose).
The Knicks will have the same exact team next season. Here is the salary cap situation inherited by Walsh for the 2009/10 campaign: Eddy Curry has a $10.5 million player option, Quentin Richardson has a $9.35 million player option, Jamal Crawford, who has never even sniffed the playoffs, has a $9.36 million player option, Jerome James has a $6.6 million player option, Jared Jeffries will get just under $6.5 million and that is on top of Zach Randolph’s $16 million.
I’d swear that it was Isiah’s goal to ruin this team. Kudos to Zeke because he proved that he is the best in the NBA at sucking…and sexually harassing.
It’s now up to Walsh to come in with his 10-gallon hat and turn this nag into a stallion. It’s going to be a long, long road.
