Joe Paterno still knows football.
The man with pigskin in his veins and pasta in his pot belly still understands the game's greater nuances, still relates well to players four decades his younger, still stalks the sideline with the same salt-and-pepper hair, same Coke bottle glasses, same business and Nike sneakers attire.
Paterno is sharp for a man his age. If it wasn't for a sideline chop block from one of his players last fall, he would still be motoring on foot to work at the age of 80. His memory of players and games past is still crisp, his connections in the college football world forever endless.
Yet, this Joe Paterno is more a teacher and delegator than a head coach. In discussing the head coach's status with several media types over the past few seasons, it became apparent that Paterno still loved to instruct his players on the field and bestow life's pearly wisdom off it. More>>
