Calathes signs with Greek team

MAROUSSI, GREECE - Former Saint Joseph's basketball standout Pat Calathes has signed a professional contract with the Maroussi Basketball Club in Greece.

The A1 level club, located in Northern Athens, signed Calathes to a three-year contract. It lost in the semifinals of last year's A1 League playoffs but will compete this season in the EuroCup.

Calathes had his best season in a Hawk uniform in 2007-08. He led SJU in scoring (17.5 ppg) and rebounding (7.5 rpg) this season while earning Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and A-10 All-Championship Team honors. The 6-10 guard was named the Big 5 Co-Player of the Year and helped the Hawks reach the conference title game and the NCAA Tournament. Calathes, who graduated with a degree in marketing, finished his career with 1,251 points and 630 rebounds, becoming one of just 26 players in school history to record over 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.

Another former Hawk standout, Pat Carroll, recently signed with Beirasar Rosalia, which competes in the Spanish LEB Gold League.

Last season, Carroll split time between two teams in Spain, averaging 7.5 points for Seville and then 13.4 points for Alicante.
