The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired veteran reliever Scott Eyre from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for minor league pitcher Brian Schlitter.
The left-handed Eyre, 36, had appeared in only 19 games for the Cubs this season due to two separate stints on the disabled list for left elbow inflammation and a strained left groin. He was 2-0 with a 7.15 earned run average with 14 strikeouts in 11.1 innings.
Originally selected by Texas in the ninth round of the 1991 draft, Eyre is 23-29 with four saves and a 4.42 ERA in 556 career games (32 starts) for the White Sox (1997-2000), Blue Jays (2001-02), Giants (2002-05) and Cubs (2006-08).
Schlitter was 4-3 with six saves and a 2.22 ERA in 34 games for single-A Clearwater.
