Phils call up Double-A pitcher

The Phillies purchased the contract of righthander Andrew Carpenter from Class AA Reading on Wednesday.

Carpenter, 23, has gone 9-11 with a 4.68 ERA in 24 starts with Reading and Class A affiliate Clearwater of the Florida State League this season.

To make room for Carpenter, Philadelphia designated infielder Andy Tracy for assignment. Tracy was 0-for-1 with a walk in his two plate appearances for the Phillies.

Lefthander Mike Zagurski, who is sidelined with an elbow injury, was also transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
