Soul re-sign Brown, Nyenhuis

PHILADELPHIA (Tuesday, August 5) – Defensive backs Mike Brown and Rob Keefe as well as defensive lineman Gabe Nyenhuis and wide receiver Kenny Henderson have all been re-signed by the ArenaBowl champion Philadelphia Soul.


Brown who completed his fifth AFL season was among the Soul’s most key contributors ending with 41.5 total tackles, five interceptions and three kickoff returns for touchdowns. Along with his impressive defensive statistics, Brown was honored this season as the Al Lucas Hero Award winner which is given annually to an AFL player for his tireless work in the community.


In his second season with the Soul after being with four NFL teams, Nyenhuis finished the 2008 season with a team-leading 9.5 sacks, 19 solo tackles and 18 assists. Nyenhuis also led the led the league with 12.5 tackles for loss and was named Second Team All-Arena.


Defensive back Rob Keefe was a key contributor to the special teams for most of the season and the defensive backfield while Brown was injured for five weeks throughout the season. As a rookie, Keefe recorded 41 total tackles and 17 kickoff returns with an average of nearly 20 yards per return.


Henderson who suffered a broken collarbone in the first game of the season was only able to play in two games during the 2008 campaign. In his two games, Henderson tallied 10 receptions for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Prior to 2008, Henderson played for the New Orleans VooDoo for one season.


The Soul celebrated their fifth anniversary this season with a 59-56 win over the San Jose SaberCats in Virgin Mobile ArenaBowl XXII.
