The Philadelphia Flyers recalled 6'2", 195-pound defenseman Ryan Parent from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, on Thursday.

Parent, 20, was scoreless in one game for the Phantoms this season. He was assigned to the Phantoms on Wednesday, April 4, after he was recalled from the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League on Tuesday, April 3. Parent recorded three goals and seven assists for 10 points and 86 penalty minutes in 43 games for Guelph and posted an assist in four games as Guelph was eliminated from the OHL Playoffs by the Plymouth Whalers, four games to none.

He was named the Storm's captain prior to the start of the 2006-07 season. Parent was acquired by the Flyers, along with Scottie Upshall and first and third round picks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, from the Nashville Predators in exchange for Peter Forsberg on February 15, 2007.

Parent registered 10 goals and 46 assists for 56 points and 262 penalty minutes in 227 regular season games in four seasons with the Storm (2003-04 through 2006-07) and was named to the OHL Second All-Star Team following the 2005-06 season. A native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Parent was a member of the Canadian National Team, which won the gold medal at the 2006 and 2007 World Junior Championships.

He was originally drafted by Nashville in the first round (18th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
