Freshman Mouphtaou Yarou will play in Villanova's season opener on Friday, despite a report questioning his age.
"He has been cleared by the eligibility center and will play," coach Jay Wright said.
Yarou's eligibility was questioned after a Sporting News report surfaced saying Yarou was listed on an international basketball Web site as a player in a 2007 African Cup tournament. That would have made him 25 years old, not 19 as listed by Villanova.
Yarou, a 6-foot-9, 240-pound power forward, came to the United States in January 2008 from the West African Republic of Benin.
