WCCO in Minneapolis is reporting UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar has a severe case of diverticulitis, a disease found in the large intestines which involves formation of pouches on the outside of the colon that become inflamed.
UFC president Dana White reportedly spoke with Lesnar today, who is believed to be in a hospital in Bismark, ND, shortly. White is trying to get Lesnar to check into the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for further treatment.
"Leaving Bismarck, N.D. right now," White wrote on his Twitter account. "Brock had minor surgery and is feeling better."
Treatment of diverticulitis can include no solid food and aggressive antibiotic treatment. The most serious cases can require surgery to remove the area of the colon infected. If he needs that surgery, Lesnar, the biggest drawing card in the sport, may never fight again.
