97.5 FM is now the FM band for ESPN 950-AM, calling itself The Fanatic. Both stations are owned by Greater Media.
The move accompanies some big time, positive lineup changes. ESPN’s Mike and Mike will remain from 6 a.m. - 10 a.m., but after that it will change to Dan Schwartzman and Stephen A. Smith from 10 a.m. - noon (until a permanent host is named according to the station), Harry Mayes and NBC10’s Vai Sikahema from noon - 2 p.m., and Mike Missanelli from 2 p.m. - 7 p.m.
950 had virtually seeded the middays to WIP by airing the syndicated Colin Cowherd and Mays with Schwartzman, two solid, albeit non-descript personalities. A combination of Smith and Sikahema would likely blow away WIP's pairing of Anthony Gargano and Glen Macnow. Watering them each down is a little perplexing but snaring them is certainly a step in the right direction.
WIP will likely respond by hiring more ex-Eagles. Kyle Eckel stay by the phone.
