The Sporting News came out with its annual list of the top 100 NFL players, picked by dozens of formal players and a plethora of Hall of Famers, and the Eagles had five: running back Brian Westbrook (17); quarterback Donovan McNabb (22); cornerback Asante Samuel (52); defensive end Trent Cole (74) and backup quarterback Michael Vick (88). Former Eagles safety Brian Dawkins came in at No. 39.
Minnesota and Pittsburgh each topped the list with seven players apiece. In the NFC, the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons and Dallas Cowboys matched the Birds with five players, to tie for second behind the Vikings.
Interestingly the best pure football player on the Eagles (Shawn Andrews) did not place because of his injury and emotional issues. Makes sense, expect Vick made the list and hasn't played for two years.
For what it's worth, here's our top 10 Eagles:
1. - Shawn Andrews - If healthy and sane.
2. - Brian Westbrook
3. - Asante Samuel
4. - Donovan McNabb
5. - Trent Cole
6. - DeSean Jackson
7. - Sheldon Brown
8. - Brodrick Bunkley
9. - Jason Peters
10. - Quintin Mikell
To those who asked. No...Stewart Bradely would not have made the top 10 if healthy.
