What took so long?
The Eagles offensive line is a mess and Jon Runyan has been sitting in South Jersey cleared to play after offseason microfracture surgery on his right knee.
Well the Inqy is reporting that an Eagles player confirmed that Runyan worked out for coach Andy Reid, offensive line coach Juan Castillo and general manager Tom Heckert before practice today.
I get why the Eagles were trying to move on. Runyan is aging and on the downside but Shawn Andrews can't be counted on (he didn't practice today), Jason Peters is overrated, Todd Herremans is hurt and Stacy Andrews is still struggling to come back.
The re-shaping of the offensive line just didn't work and it's time to bring the veteran back.
However, Runyan's agent told Jeff McLane that no contract talks have started yet. As a vested veteran, if Runyan is on the roster for Week 1 his entire salary would be guaranteed, so expect the Eagles to bite the bullet in Carolina and then ink Runyan next week.
