FOXSports' Jay Glazer is reporting that the Eagles will be signing tight end Alex Smith today. No word on who they will jettison to make room.
Update:The Eagles released TE Tony Curtis to make room for Smith.
A veteran of four NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Smith (6-foot-4, 258) was traded to the New England Patriots in the 2009 offseason and spent the entire preseason with the Pats before being released on September 5 as part of the team’s final roster cutdown.
Originally a third round draft choice of Tampa Bay in 2005, the 27-year-old Smith has played in 58 career games (43 starts), posting 129 receptions for 1,252 yards and 11 touchdowns.
