Phillies sign top pick Savery


The Philadelphia Phillies signed their first-round pick in this year's draft, Rice pitcher Joe Savery.

The deal reportedly includes a signing bonus worth nearly $1.4 million.

The 19th overall selection, Savery was 11-1 with a 2.99 earned run average with the Owls. The 21-year-old left hander will begin his pro career with Class A Williamsport on Friday.
