Good morning Philadelphia. Let's get right to the rumor mill, starting with the typewritten wisdom from our area scribes.
Inquirer's Jim Salisbury:
"Despite listing his priorities as a hitter and a reliever, Phillies general manager Pat Gillick continued to move toward acquiring a starting pitcher at the winter meetings yesterday. 'I'm probably more optimistic than I was [Monday],' Gillick said of his chances of trading for a starter. Acquiring a starter could set off a chain of events that would bring the Phillies the bat and the bullpen arm they seek. Gillick said he engaged in trade talks with three clubs. It's likely that those clubs are the Chicago White Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Texas Rangers."

Daily News' Paul Hagen:
"His priorities are pretty much the same. He wants to add a bat and a relief pitcher. But with free-agent market pickings becoming slim, his options are dwindling. Rondell White? Preston Wilson? Steve Finley? Shrug. There were rumors last night that they are talking to Washington about lefthanded-hitting outfielder Ryan Church. But it's difficult for the Phillies to make a trade that will help them in one area without leaving themselves short in another."

Courier-Times' Randy Miller:
"For now, the Phils' hottest iron was getting back into the chase for free agent reliever Joe Borowski, who appears close to signing with the Cleveland Indians. The Phils reneged on a multi-year contract last week when Borowski flunked a physical. OnWednesday, while Borowski was in Cleveland for a physical with the Indians, the Phils made contact with the reliever's agents and provided a new offer."
