A.I. Update

The Phanatic has been on top of the Allen Iverson drama since it started unfolding with the New York Post article early Friday morning. We found out later in the day that Iverson was out for the game against Washington with "back spasms," however the asterisk of "DNP: Coach's Decision" hung over the situation.

Both sides started the political spin game later that night preceding team chairman Ed Snider's declaration that Iverson had in fact asked for a trade, and the club prepared to honor that request.

Newspapers and sources have placed Iverson anywhere from Boston to Golden State, with the blockbuster trade likely coming within the week.

How does The Phanatic feel about the situation? Iverson never understood his role off the court in a spew of hate that affected his role on it, writes John McMullen. Jared Trexler feels a change of scenery and a chance at a championship are what a warrior on the floor deserves.

Now, for the Monday morning newspaper update. What is the latest timetable? What teams, players, general managers are involved?

Chicago shipping Ben Gordon, a pile of veteran trash and a first-round pick to Philly in a "Win Now" move? The Sixers really want Golden State's Monta Ellis or Minnesota's Randy Foye? What is Boston willing to part with? The Philadelphia Inquirer's Stephen A. Smith breaks down a team-by-team trade update.

The Boston Globe's Shira Springer got the juice from one league source, writing a deal would center around Al Jefferson and ex-Sixer Theo Ratliff. How about A.I. and Kobe in the same backcourt? The LA Daily News' Ross Siler writes that head coach Phil Jackson wouldn't rule out the possibility. Who else wants to make a deal? The Oklahoman's Darnell Mayberry (great last name for that paper) says NO for the Hornets. But of course the Knicks are interested. Or at least David Boroff is making an impassioned plea in today's New York Daily News.

The clock is ticking as the heartbeat of a city waits for one of its greatest players to exit town. The Phanatic will have endline-to-endline coverage in the minutes, hours and days leading up to the trade and then full analysis of the deal once it goes down.
