Chester, Pa. (The Phanatic Magazine) – Philadelphia Union’s inaugural radio game broadcast kicks off on SportsRadio 610 WIP Saturday when the club visits Eastern Conference rival New York Red Bulls at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Hosted by MLS veteran radio and television announcer Tony Limarzi and former Philadelphia KiXX goalkeeper Peter Pappas, the club will broadcast select matches both home and away through the end of the season.
Formerly the radio play-by-play announcer for D.C. United, Limarzi also works with Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic hosting “D.C. United Central” and “D.C. United Postgame Live” and is also the play-by-play announcer for the University of Maryland Men’s Soccer team. Additionally he works with the NBA’s Washington Wizards as a studio host for Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic.
A 13 year veteran goalkeeper for the KiXX, Pappas played in 416 regular season matches and logged 23,606 minutes in goal. He also recorded 5,399 saves and 230 wins, while logging over an additional 2000 minutes and 450 saves in the postseason. The Philadelphia University graduate was named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Year on four occasions (2001, 2004, 2005, 2007) and was an All-League selection eight times.
