Since Opening Day, the Phillies have sported a World Series Champions patch on the sleeve of both their home white uniforms and their cream-colored alternate jerseys.
That is, until the start of the series against the Rockies on August 4th.
No news release has been issued from the Phillies regarding the uniform change and there is nothing on the team's official Web site addressing the issue.
So, why take the patch off the uniforms? They're still the defending World Series Champions, right?
There is speculation that the team only planned to wear the patch on the jerseys through July and that August marks the beginning of the stretch run to the playoffs, therefore the patch had to go.
That seems like strange timing, especially since the All-Star break would have been a more appropriate time to remove the patch for the second-half of the season.
There is also speculation that Cliff Lee didn't feel comfortable wearing the patch onm his uniform and the team decided to ax it before his first start at Citizens Bank Park earlier this afternoon.
We here at The Phanatic are going to get to the bottom of the Case of the Missing Patch, come hell or high water.
Or when the Phillies answer their phones. - Steve Lienert
