Jeremy Roenick, late of the San Jose Sharks, officially retired from the NHL after 20 seasons on Thursday.
While he was better known as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks (1988-96) and Phoenix Coyotes (1996-2001, 2006-07), JR carved out a unique niche on the veteran laden clubs under Ken Hitchcock from 2001-2004.
Over 215 regular-season games with Philly, he recorded 67 goals, 173 points, and produced at least twice as many great quotes. He added seven goals and 21 points in 36 playoff contests.
Roenick scored one of the most memorable tallied in Flyers postseason history in overtime of Game 6 in the 2004 Eastern Conference semifinals against Toronto, a series-winner mere months after being sidelined for the remainder of the regular season after a shot from a teammate caused a broken jaw and concussion in mid-February.
He also later assisted on Simon Gagne's game-winning score in overtime of Game 6 in the Eastern finals against Tampa Bay.
Since entering the league out of Boston University as the eighth-overall pick of Chicago in the 1988 draft, the Boston-area native compiled 513 goals and 1,216 points in 1,363 contests.
He became only the second American-born player to reach the 500-goal mark, as a Shark, during the 2007-08 season and ranks third behind Mike Modano and Keith Tkachuk in that category.
