ComcastSportsnet's Tim Panaccio is reporting that the Flyers will be signing goalie Ray Emery as their starter for next year. Sun Media in Canada says it's a one-year deal.
Last year's starter Marty Biron wants a long-term deal and the Flyers think his money would be best served helping to pursue defenseman Jay Bouwmeester either via trade or through free agency.
The 26-year-old Emery spent five seasons with the Senators before going to Russia. Playing for Atlant Mytischi of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) last season, Emery posted a 2.12 goals against average and .920 save percentage with a record of 22-8.
“We have internal discussions about many players and their potential availability, including Ray Emery," Flyers Gm Paul Homlgren said. "I have spoken to his agent a few times about Ray as well. Any further speculation about this would be very premature.”
Emery can’t sign until July 1.
