The Birds are back in Lehigh for a non-contact afternoon practice. Second-year 'backer Joe Mays was running with the first team defense in place of Stewart Bradley to start.
At 245 pounds, Mays looks the part but is short (just 5-foot-11) and is taking a big leap up in competition from his college days at North Dakota State. Omar Gaither, a natural weak-side linebacker, is the fall back with starting experience.
Gaither took over Bradley's spot in the nickel package alongside Akeem Jordan
