The Philadelphia Flyers signed 5’11, 205-pound free agent forward Arron Asham to a multi-year contract according late Wednesday.
“Arron is a hard-nosed aggressive winger that can play a lot of different roles for our hockey team,” said Holmgren in making the announcement.
“I think it’s great,” said Asham. “I’ve always wanted to play with the Flyers. I think their style of game suits my game to a T. It’s definitely going to be exciting to come here and wear the orange and black.”
Asham, 30, recorded six goals and four assists for 10 points and 84 penalty minutes in 77 regular season games for the New Jersey Devils this past season and registered one assist and two penalty minutes in five playoff games.
A native of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Asham has posted 64 goals, 71 assists for 135 points and 537 penalty minutes in 498 regular season NHL games over nine seasons. In 23 career playoff games, he has registered one goal, three assists for four points and 22 penalty minutes.
Asham was originally drafted by Montreal in the third round (71st overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
