Devils invade Trenton

The National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils today re-branded its ECHL affiliate from the “Trenton Titans” to the “Trenton Devils.” The team’s new home and road jerseys will feature “TRENTON” in red across the chest, with a stylized horn in the “T” and “N,” along with the familiar New Jersey Devils logo. The announcement was made by Devils’ CEO/President/General Manager Lou Lamoriello.

“The Devils’ organization prides itself on two things: consistency and excellence. Our goal is to have all of our players at every level play for the same name and logo,“ said Lamoriello. “We want our players to feel a sense of pride every time they put on their respective Devils’ sweaters.”

The Devils will become the only hockey franchise with the same nickname at the NHL (New Jersey), AHL (Lowell), and ECHL (Trenton) levels. Five other NHL teams – Boston, Dallas, Ottawa, Pittsburgh, and San Jose – currently share a nickname with their AHL affiliate.

In 2007-08, the ECHL’s Trenton franchise, 2004-05 Kelly Cup Champions, will enter its ninth season of operation. The team will continue to play its home games at the 7,605-seat Sovereign Bank Arena.

Now the Devils can truly claim New Jersey as their own. As a loyal and proud Devils fan who lives and grew up in Philadelphia it's been comical to have been told "root for your home team" by Flyers fans who live in South New Jersey. I just want to thank Lou and the Devils for having finally taken over the entire state with a class
franchise that does not have an appalling and pathetic tradition of failure and hate.

Martin Brodeur is better (Marty's Better) and more successfull than the entire Flyers franchise himself. Thankfully, we can see the young talent blossom all the way to Lowell and then back to Newark, New Jersey.

From every true Devils fan, especially here in Philly..we may not have won the Cup this year.. but now with the move to Newark I can become a season ticket holder for good, watch my Lowell Devils two times a year here and now season tickets for the Trenton Devils. It's a great time to be a Devils fan win or lose on the ice.

So now it is truly official: Hey Flyers fans in New Jersey..if YOU don't root for the Devils now than YOU are not rooting for the "home team."

Back in 1982 Ed Snider never gave the Devils impact any thought probably. Slowly, but surely the Devils have taken over New Jersey and NOW Mr. Snider's most horrific nightmare has come true.

Mr. Snider and fellow Flyers fans ..WE, as Devils fans and I'm sure along with Valery Kharlamov in Heaven, we NOW laugh at you.

Enjoy 1975, because it will NEVER happen again. So call a press confernece and again aplogize to your loyal fan base who quite frankly don't know if the puck is inflated or frozen and rename your team to it's rightful name: THE PHILADELPHIA FAILURES.

New Jersey: The Armpit of the United States

Hey Al,

It was really classy of Lou to fire the coach with three games left in the regular season. That is such a class move. Oh, and didn't he do the same thing to Robbie Ftorek in 2000? That is showing real loyalty.
