Lieber to bullpen?

One scenario that has been kicked around since the Phillies acquired pitcher Freddy Garcia was Jon Lieber to the bullpen, an idea that has both its supporters and doubters.

Randy Miller addressed the situation on phillyburbs.com Sunday, getting Lieber to sound off on the possibility of moving to the bullpen. And for what it is worth, Lieber is not opposed to the idea.

“I'm going to do whatever they tell me to do,” Lieber said. “If they want me in the bullpen, I'll go down to the bullpen. If they want me to start, I'll start. If they want to trade me, they'll trade me.”

Miller addresses both sides of the idea, saying keeping Lieber in the bullpen will give the Phillies a reliable arm late in games and an insurance policy in case one of their pitchers goes down with injury.

However, the other side of the coin says Lieber does not field his position well and would be a liability in close games. One other possible problem, not addressed by Miller, is Lieber's conditioning and weight.

Adam Eaton going to the bullpen is also a possibility.
