The Philadelphia Eagles today announced they have re-signed RB Correll Buckhalter to a two-year contract. Buckhalter is the fifth player to re-sign with the Eagles since the season ended, joining QB A.J. Feeley, S Quintin Mikell, DE Juqua Thomas, and CB Will James.

“Buck worked extremely hard to get back on the field in 2006 and did a solid job for us,” said general manager Tom Heckert. “He’s a tough kid both mentally and physically and is a proven performer at running back when he’s been healthy. He’s a real good compliment to Brian Westbrook in our offensive scheme.”

The 28-year-old Buckhalter returned to the field in 2006 after missing three of the previous four seasons due to knee injuries. He rushed for 345 yards and two touchdowns on 83 carries (a 4.2 average) as the primary back-up to Brian Westbrook. Buckhalter also collected a career-high 24 receptions for 256 yards and one touchdown.

A fourth round draft choice of the Eagles in 2001, Buckhalter has rushed 338 times for 1,473 yards (4.4 average) and 12 touchdowns, while grabbing 47 passes for 519 yards and two scores. He rushed for a team rookie record 586 yards in 2001 and posted a career-high nine touchdowns in 2003 as part of the Eagles “Three-Headed Monster” running back attack, along with Duce Staley and Westbrook. He missed the entire 2002, 2004, and 2005 campaigns due to injury.
