Reynolds goes for 40, Wildcats down UConn

By Jared Trexler
Scottie Reynolds couldn't miss.
As if a career-high 40 points didn't get that point across.
Reynolds' outburst likely cemented Villanova's spot in the NCAA Tournament, as the Wildcats defeated Connecticut 78-74 at Gampel Pavilion. Reynolds' career high was the most points scored in the storied history of the gymnasium, surpassing Lindsay Hunter's 39 points during an NIT game for Jackson State in 1993.
Villanova (20-9, 8-7) guaranteed itself of finishing at least .500 in the Big East, adding to a powerful non-conference schedule that includes a victory over Texas without Curtis Sumpter.
Sumpter didn't need to be the man again on Wednesday, as Reynolds drained six three-pointers in the contest. Sumpter did post 18 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.
Jeff Adrien and Jerome Dyson had 20 points apiece for the Huskies (17-12, 6-9), who will need a Big East Tournament Title to avoid a trip to the NIT.
