Drexel falls to VCU, fate in the balance

Drexel's 63-56 loss to Virginia Commonwealth in the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals is significant because of its insignificance.

The game was a tournament-tester -- a resume-building, ticket-punching sorta classic that wills clubs into the NCAA field.

But in the end, it was significant because it didn't happen.

Now, the Dragons must wait a week to find out if 13 true road victories, including wins against Villanova and Syracuse are good enough in a conference that sent a team -- George Mason -- to the Final Four last season.

Head coach Bruiser Flint tried to make his case at the conclusion of yesterday's loss.

Flint told the Philadelphia Daily News, "They sort of give you a formula for what they want you to do, and I think we did it... . Especially for a mid-major. The high majors, those guys don't go on the road. They get a lot of wins, but they play at home. Then they talk about how tough their conference is. That's what happens."
