Soul signs wr/kr Slaughter

The Philadelphia Soul have announced the signing of wide receiver, Rashaud Slaughter (5’9, 185, Alabama-Birmingham) for the 2011 season.  Slaughter, who will be entering his rookie season, saw action as both running back and wide receiver in college and is expected to battle for a roster spot as a wide receiver and kick returner.

“We really like what we’ve seen from Rashaud and we’re excited about his potential,” said Soul head coach Mike Hohensee.  “His elusiveness and ability to create in tight spaces will make him an exciting player in this League.  His presence in training camp will raise the level of competition for all players looking to make this team.”

Slaughter spent four seasons with the UAB program from 2006 to 2009 and was a starter for three seasons.  As a senior in 2009, Slaughter finished third on the team with 250 rushing yards and one touchdown along with 14 receptions for 173 yards and one touchdown.  Slaughter finished with 432 all-purpose yards in 11 games played during the ‘09 season.

As a junior in 2008, Slaughter posted 514 rushing yards and was the team’s second-leading receiver with 29 receptions in 12 games played (nine starts).  Slaughter posted four rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown in 2008, and rushed for a season-high 92 yards against Memphis.  Slaughter posted more than 40 yards rushing in seven contests and recorded 217 yards on 11 kick returns.

The former Blazer was UAB’s number one running back in 2007 by rushing for 325 yards on 100 carries with one touchdown.  As a freshman in 2006, Slaughter saw action in 11 games and earned a spot on the Conference USA All-Freshman Team as he was selected at two positions (wide receiver & punt returner).  Slaughter finished 2006 with 16 receptions for 113 yards and averaged 24.1 yards on eight kick returns.
