Last night, the Philadelphia Flyers laid an 8-1 hurting on the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh, with Jeff Carter leading the way with his second career hat trick. The victory opened the floodgates to a bevy of pertinent notes concerning the matchup of these clubs.

  • It was the first time since April 3, 2009 that the Flyers scored eight goals in a game. During that 8-5 home win over Toronto, Carter collected his first career hat trick.
  • It proved to be the largest margin of victory for a road game since a 7-0 win at Atlanta on October 28, 2008.
  • The contest also marked the first time since an 8-0 rout at Vancouver on December 31, 1997 that Philadelphia tallied as many goals away from home.
  • Thursday's game set the Flyers' franchise record for goals in a game on the road against the Whalers/Hurricanes franchise. The previous high was seven, in a 7-4 win on January 8, 1983 and in a 9-7 loss on February 25, 1984. The Orange and Black had never scored more than six goals at Carolina, with the last time occurring in a 6-3 decision on November 21, 2007.
  • Philly also struck eight times in an 8-4 win at the Spectrum over Hartford on January 9, 1983.
  • The seven-goal differential was the largest margin of victory the Flyers enjoyed over the Whalers/Hurricanes since the franchise entered the NHL in 1979. The previous high had been five goals, done four times and last on October 31, 2009 in Philadelphia's 6-1 win.
