The Philadelphia Flyers and forward Jeff Carter have agreed to terms on a multi-year contract extension on Saturday. Terms of the pact were not disclosed, but TSN of Canada reported earlier in the day that the 25-year-old was rewarded with an 11-year, $58 million deal.
The signing of the sixth-year pro comes on the heels of the Flyers locking up forward Claude Giroux earlier in the week with an $11.25 million deal over three years.
Thanks to his second career hat trick in an 8-1 rout at Carolina on Thursday, Carter has posted eight goals and 14 points in 16 games this year. Last season, Carter notched a team-best 33 goals to go with 61 points in 74 games.
Limited to 12 playoff games by a broken left foot suffered late in the regular season, Carter wound up with five goals and seven points. He was held to just one empty-net goal in a six-game Stanley Cup Finals loss to Chicago.
Since breaking into the NHL for the 2005-06 season, the native of London, Ontario has compiled 153 goals and 291 points in 397 regular-season contests. In 41 playoff tilts, Carter has notched 12 goals and 19 points.
Carter, who played in juniors with Sault Ste. Marie of the Ontario Hockey League, jumped to the pro ranks at the end of the 2004-05 season and was part of the Flyers' AHL affiliate Philadelphia Phantoms' 2005 Calder Cup-winning squad.
His best season with the Flyers came in 2008-09, after posting career-bests of 46 goals, 38 assists and 84 points in 82 games.
