The NFL has reinstated Michael Vick, effective in the Philadelphia Eagles' third game of the regular season.
Commissioner Roger Goodell made the announcement Thursday after meeting with Vick and Eagles Coach Andy Reid for approximately 45 minutes earlier in the day at the team's hotel in New Jersey.
"Hopefully we can have a success story here," Goodell said. " I think he's anxious to play football."
"I'm trying to show [Goodell] that I'm moving in the right direction," Vick said when asked about the meeting. " I'm changing my life for the better. [I'm showing him] that I'm doing all the things that a professional athlete is supposed to do on and off the field. I can't get complacent. I just have to stay strong and keep moving forward. I have to continue to have faith in myself and trust myself and I think [Goodell] believed that."
Vick also said he was "surprised" that he was not going to be reinstated until Week 3 and did not consider it a "suspension."
"That's what the Commissioner indicated to me -- it's an opportunity to get myself together and take some time off and to do all of the right things," said Vick.
