Phils call up C Hoover

The Phillies have called up catcher Paul Hoover, who hit .253 with one home run and 28 RBI in 73 games at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The team also activated Antonio Bastardo from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Double-A Reading.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Hoover and Bastardo, the Phillies designated pitcher r Steven Register and catcher Joel Naughton for assignment. Register was 1-3 with seven saves and a 3.20 ERA in 33 games for Lehigh Valley and appeared in one game for the Phillies this year while Naughton batted .240 with seven home runs and 37 RBI in 82 games for Single-A Clearwater.
