Maxwell Club honors Rutgers' Britt

ROSLYN, Pa. (January 7, 2009) – Maxwell Football Club President Ron Jaworski announced that Rutgers WR Kenny Britt (Bayonne, N.J.) has been selected as the 2008 Tri-State Player of the Year.

It marks the second time in three years a Rutgers player has captured the Tri-State Player of the Year Award after former Rutgers All-America RB Ray Rice collected the honor following the 2006 season.

Britt led the Scarlet Knights to an 8-5 record and the program’s fourth consecutive bowl and third straight bowl victory after a 29-23 victory over NC State in the PapaJohns.com Bowl. The nation’s second-leading receiver in yards per game in 2008, Britt finished his career as the BIG EAST’s all-time leader in receiving yards (3,043) in 34 games. A Third Team Associated Press All-America selection in 2008, Britt was also a First Team All-BIG EAST selection after leading the league in both receptions and receiving yards. He finished second in the nation in receiving yards per game (114.2) and eighth in receptions per game (7.4).

The Maxwell Football Club will make the formal presentation of these awards at the Club’s National Awards Dinner that will be held at Harrah’s Atlantic City Resort on March 6, 2009. The Club will also present these additional awards at the event: Maxwell Award (Tim Tebow – University of Florida), Chuck Bednarik Award (Rey Maualuga – University of Southern California), George Munger Award (Mike Leach – Texas Tech), Bert Bell Award (Adrian Peterson – Minnesota Vikings), Greasy Neale Award (Jeff Fisher – Tennessee Titans), Reds Bagnell Award (Steve Sabol – NFL Films).
