Can we please stop the haughtiness?
The Vikings did sell the remaining 3,100 tickets today and Sunday's game is a sellout, the 115th consecutive in Minnesota.
That's right... contrary to what WIP tells you. Minnesota's last non-sellout was in 1997.
And please understand, the Metrodome is hardly Lincoln Financial Field. It's s dump, sorta like the Vet.
Anyone want to bring up those 1993-94 Vet attendance numbers? Oh, and the estimated population in the Twin Cities area is 2.5 million compared to 5.8 million here. The last Eagles non-sellout? Try the 1999 season opener against Arizona.
Yep, the Vikings sellout streak is longer than the Eagles.
Research is a wonderful thing. It's a shame 610 and the good folks at ESPN 950 don't utilize it.
Contrary to popular belief, it's very difficult to sell first round playoff tickets when you are not assured of a spot. With the sour economy, things were even tougher than usual this year. Miami needed to sell 25,000 tickets and Arizona needed a Phoenix based Swimming Pool Company to purchase a large block of seats.
Now, let's imagine going into last Sunday, everything would have been the same. Tampa Bay and Chicago had to lose and the Birds had to beat the 'Boys, but the end result was a home playoff game.
This team's fan base was ready to hang Andy Reid and waive goodbye to Donovan McNabb, coincidently the two reasons they are favored over the Vikings, after the debacle in Washington. How many of those fans fans would have been beating down the door to drop money on potential playoff tickets?
Well, Minnesota fans hate their coach just like you, don't even have a quarterback and needed their team to beat the NFL's best club, the New York Giants, in the final game to assure a playoff spot.
Moral of the story?
Don't judge...you would have done the same thing.
Oh and never ever listen to Howard Eskin.
