Tom Gordon finally threw to live, opposing batters for the first time this Spring -- needing just nine pitches in an easy eighth inning of a victory over Pittsburgh. The club plans to monitor Gordon closely this season in hopes of keeping him healthy for the duration. Remember Paul Hagen's column posted at The Phanatic Magazine about one month ago regarding Pat Burrell's eyesight.
It may not have been a conspiracy theory after all. Hagen's colleague at the Daily News Marcus Hayes reported Wednesday that Burrell's team eye exam didn't come back 100% positive, and the left fielder may look into contacts.
Davey Lopes was added to Charlie Manuel's coaching staff for one main purpose -- to turn the Phillies speedsters into lethal base-stealers. Lopes has been working all Spring with Jimmy Rollins, Shane Victorino, Aaron Rowand and Chase Utley, now he has picked up a "hitch" in top prospect Michael Bourn.
