The confidence is inferred from several events in the last two offseasons. Whisenhunt turned down an Oakland Raiders job that was he for the taking after last season, now league sources told us that he in fact rebuffed an offer from the Falcons.
Reason? He didn't want to take the job -- really ANY job -- before interviewing in Pittsburgh, the job he and every other top NFL assistant covets at this stage in the process.
Not wanting to wait around, Falcons top man Arthur Blank moved on to Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino, with reports surfacing Sunday night that the former college coach and the club agreed to a five-year, $24 million deal.
That leaves Whisenhunt in the running for the jobs in Arizona (already interviewed), Miami (interviewed with club officials Sunday in Pittsburgh), and with the Steelers, with whom the offensive guru will interview Tuesday.
Every one of Whisenhunt's decisions to date point toward his desire to become the next Steeler head coach.
Will he? That's something The Phanatic is not ready to predict, with candidates lining up and down the street and around the corner from the South Side sports complex.
