CHA$E, AND THOU SHALL FIND

The winter sports season may be less than appealing to the diehards here in Philadelphia, with the Birds shelved and the Flyers and Sixers relegated to the basement, but fear not -- The Phanatic is here to guide you through it. We'll search endlessly for rays of light, and pummell (verbally, of course) anyone responsible for making it so damn bleak around here.

Fittingly, the front page has stories both encouraging and disheartening today. The good news: second baseman Chase Utley will be a Phillie for the prime of his career, as he reached a seven-year, $85 million deal with the club.

The bad news: Former Philadelphia Phillies pitching coach Vern Ruhle died Saturday night due to complications from a stem cell transplant.

Not ready for the Phils quite yet? No worries, read why John McMullen thinks there's more spin coming out of the NovaCare complex than the White House. Good stuff, as always. We're here for you, Philly. If there's any way we can improve our coverage, let us know. Thanks for your continued loyalty and readership.
