Sixers drop preseason opener in Roanoke to Nets

Brook Lopez scored 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds as the Nets picked up a victory for new coach Avery Johnson, 103-96, over a Philadelphia-led Doug Collins squad in the preseason opener for both teams.

Marresse Speights had 19 points to lead the Sixers, while Elton Brand ended with 15 points. Evan Turner, this year's No. 2 overall draft selection, had 12 points and seven rebounds in 25 1/2 minutes of playing time.

Eight of Turner's points came in the final quarter, but it was Speights' two foul shots that tied the game at 92 with nearly five minutes left. The Nets scored the ensuing 11 points, capped by a three-pointer from Graham with 2:06 remaining.

As expected, Collins started Jrue Holiday and Andre Iguodala in the backcourt, Thaddeus Young at small forward, Brand at the four and Spencer Hawes at center. Speights and Turner got the most minutes off the bench followed by Lou Williams, Jodie Meeks, Craig Brackins and Jason Kapono.
