Globetrotters return to Philly area

After garnering national attention with an historic game on the roof the Spectrum last spring, the iconic Harlem Globetrotters are set to bring even more excitement to the Great Philadelphia Region as they take to the hardwood against the Washington Generals at four local arenas from March 12 to 15.

The Hall of Fame team will bring their 2010 “Magical Memories” Tour to the Liacouras Center (Friday, March 12 at 7 p.m.), the Sun National Bank Center (Saturday, March 13 at 12 p.m.), two games at the Wachovia Center (Sunday, March 14 at 12 p.m. and 5 p.m.), and the Bob Carpenter Center (Monday, March 15 at 7 p.m.).

Tickets for all five games in the Greater Philadelphia area are on sale now at each venue box office and through www.harlemglobetrotters.com.

Now in their 84th consecutive season of touring the world, the Globetrotters’ high-flying show features some of the most extraordinary athletes and entertainers on the planet – including Princeton’s own Dizzy Grant, from the College of New Jersey, NYC’s Blenda Rodriguez, Puerto Rico’s El Gato Melendez, the always hilarious Special K Daley, and dribbling magicians Scooter Christensen and Ant Atkinson.

In 2009, the Globetrotters made a triumphant return into people’s home via highly popular television programming. In a nine month span the Globetrotters had players on “The Amazing Race,” “Hell’s Kitchen,” “Jon & Kate Plus 8” and “The Bachelorette,” as well as “The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards.”

On February 9, 2010, the Globetrotters continued to make history, as they became the first professional basketball team to play a game on ice.  They took to New York’s Central Park and defeated the Generals wearing ice cleats and hockey helmets.

“The Harlem Globetrotters are the epitome of world-class family fun,” says Michael Kenney, the Globetrotters’ Senior Vice President, Live Event Marketing.  “You’ll want to get your tickets now for an experience the whole family will be talking about for years to come.”

Sponsored by Campbell Soup Company, Spalding, and America’s Best Contacts and Eyeglasses, the Original Harlem Globetrotters are in their 84th consecutive season of touring the world. The Globetrotters will perform 269 shows in 216 cities in 44 states, the District of Columbia, five Canadian provinces and Puerto Rico through the first week of May 2010.

The Original Harlem Globetrotters have played in 120 countries on six continents, entertaining over 130 million fans and crossing barriers between cultures, societies and people from all walks of life.  The Globetrotters are one of only six teams to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.  For the latest news and information about the Harlem Globetrotters, and to purchase team merchandise, visit the Globetrotters’ official Web site: www.harlemglobetrotters.com.
