Green Bay's Charles Woodson was named NFL Defnsive Player of the Year Tuesday. Woodson has 28 votes compared to 14 for New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, who should have been the winner.
Yeah, Woodson had nine interceptions and had a hand in forcing 13 turnovers but he did it all against the NFL's have nots. When the Packers and Woodson faced big-time quarterbacks like Brett Favre, Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner, they were awful.
Look at the numbers: Those three QBs combined to complete 99 of 138 passes (71.7. percent) for 1,397 yards, 15 touchdowns and no interceptions against Woodson and Company. That works out to a passer rating of 140.2.
Revis shut down everybody and should have been the runaway winner.

Stopping one player at a time (no matter how good that player is) doesn't not make someone a DPOY. It goes to the person who was most important on the defense. Charles Woodson was that person. He was the QB of the Defense(ie. called plays and made sure people were where they were supposed to be) all while playing his position at an extremely high level as well. Revis was just able to play his position (albeit at a legendary level) but to say that he should have been the runaway winner is wrong. Woodson was the right choice. The easiest way to tell the difference is to think of it this way, without Revis, the Jets would probably still have an outstanding defense. Without Woodson, the Packers probably don't.
PS. I would not include Warner as one of the QB's that had his way with Woodson as if you look at the tape of the game, all of Fitz's big catches came on plays where the refs didn't call flagrant penalties. I'll be more than happy to give you Big Ben and Favre but the Cardinals game is a different story.
